Calling all Cowgirls and Cowboys
A long weekend at Brush Creek Ranch in southeastern Wyoming was about as much fun as we’ve had in a long time! We like to call what Brush Creek offers an “American Safari”, as it’s one big adventure, full of new experiences, with almost everything included with your stay.
As city slickers ourselves, we got to indulge our inner cowpokes and try all sorts of new activities like skeet shooting, paintball and fly-fishing. We rode off into the sunset with the wrangler team, biked down tall peaks looking for mountain lions, and hiked for hours across this 30,000 acre (12,000 hectare) working cattle ranch. Floating down the Platte River in a raft, wine in hand, we were treated to soaring eagles and stunning cliff and riverine scenery. And let’s not forget early morning yoga in a yurt, ziplining, a ropes course and finally, after all that activity, a well-deserved trip to the spa.
With so much going on, you might imagine Brush Creek is a pretty social place. On the main ranch, you naturally meet other guests during activities or mealtimes, which include dining at the outdoor “Chuckwagon”, the The Main Lodge at Brush Creek Ranch main lodge dining room, or at their Creekside Dinner Camp, our favorite venue. We also loved having cocktails at Falcon Peak Overlook – high above the valley below it was the perfect place to take in the sunset. Let’s not forget the Saloon, complete with swinging doors!
Bring the little ones…
We were particularly struck by what an amazing place Brush Creek is for families. There are larger cabins and homes for family or multigenerational groups. Their Lil’ Wranglers program exposes the kids to every aspect of the ranch’s operation and the great outdoors of Wyoming. There were dozens of adorable little ones running around in their cowboy boots and hats – instant friends for all ages!
For those who prefer more privacy, Brush Creek also offers the Magee Homestead, a set of private cabins set apart from the main ranch and offering their own activities, dining and spa. Honeymooners, those seeking a romantic getaway, or a wedding or other group wanting their own space, would be very happy here.
We also ran into several small groups on property – a guys’ getaway, a bachelorette party, and a destination wedding (oh the photos). Brush Creek offered something unique to each.
Four nights is the minimum we’d recommend given how much there is to do. We wished we’d stayed longer as we might have relaxed a little bit more. It’s hard to believe such a unique travel experience exists practically in our own backyards! We cannot wait to go back.
